LÍLLÉ Lessons: Kissably Close - Why and How to Keep Baby Close Enough to Kiss

Hi loves!  Today's LÍLLÉ Lesson is a reminder to wear your little one "kissably close!"

Why should you wear baby kissably close?

The School of Babywearing  and the UK Sling Consortium define close enough to kiss this way:
"Your baby’s head should be as close to your chin as is comfortable. By tipping your head forward, you should be able to kiss your baby on the head or forehead."

The further baby is from your face, the more difficult it is to keep a close eye and ear on his or her needs, movements, breathing, and position.  Babies worn high enough for kissing are more likely to be tight and securely supported in their carriers, and wearing baby high and snug to your body also helps maintain your center of gravity and lessens strain on your back and shoulders.  Keeping baby close enough to kiss easily and without having to strain is the best practice for safe, secure, and comfortable carrying.

How do I get my little one close enough to kiss?

If you're struggling to get your little one high enough, try the following:

  • Raise the waistband of your carrier higher, toward your natural waist, and make sure it is tight enough to be level all the way around and not be pulled down by baby's weight.

  • Make sure your straps are snug and secure, being careful not to over tighten so as to maintain the natural c-curve of baby's spine.

  • Make sure the carry you are attempting is appropriate for the age and size of your little one - consult your manual or the instructional videos on our website.
