To celebrate International Babywearing Week, we'll be featuring a few of our favorite educators and advocates and sharing a bit of their babywearing story. Here's Mat York of @thatdadmat
Hi Mat! Tell us a little about yourself and what you do!
I'm a father of two and husband to my Vbac warrior wife. I am a car seat safety tech, babywearing educator, and cloth diaper enthusiast. I speak nationally on a myriad of parenting topics and have a true passion for natural living.
How did you discover your love for babywearing?
When my first child was born, I was wanting to find a way to bond with my daughter. My wife was breastfeeding and babywearing was my tool to have my own bonding experience. I wanted to be a active participant in our parenting journey.
What is your best advice for new parents and baby wearers?
Don't pick the carrier just because everyone has it. Seek out education to find the perfect carrier for you. Use it daily and ask for help if you need it!
What is your favorite part of your work?
That look on a parents face when you are teaching them a carrier and they "get it". You know at that point you have helped change their parenting journey!
Do you have a favorite story or memory of a time you were able to help a client?
Every time I get a Dad to wear for the first time.
What is your favorite feature of the LILLEbaby carriers?
For the family that can only afford one carrier, it has the ability to be the one carrier they can own for their entire babywearing journey.
